Liam Williams has won a gruelling 30 lap feature last night in Round 4 of the Oval Express Formula 500 Super Series at Laang Speedway.
Chad Sullivan tried everything he could to catch Williams on a dry slick racetrack but couldn’t. Ash Sinclair and Dale Shilleto rounded out the top 4.
Williams started on pole and was never headed with multiple cautions and even a red light for Matt Brown who flipped in turn 4. He was able to restart. Mitch Whiting continued his strong series form finishing in 5th. Thomas Davies finished in 7th picking up his 3rd top 10 of the series.
Rounds 1 and 3 winner Jake Hagopian started deep in the field and could only make it to 7th at the drop of the chequered flag. Brock Hallett was next home in 8th. Jye O’Keeffe transferred from the B-Main and started 15th. He was able to get to 9th with Austin Farley having his best run so far finishing in 10th.
James Aranyosi, Simon Craven, Mat Turner, Matt Brown, Brett Dillon and Will Carroll rounded out the finishers. Dylan Willsher had engine problems and pulled infield. Shane Van Duynhoven made contact with the main straight wall and went infield. They were joined by Justin Sadler, Grant Stansfield and Andrew Rae.
The B-Main affair proved difficult to get completed with 2 cars flipping and multiple cars spinning. At the end of 15 gruelling laps Jess Moulden held onto the win. She was followed by Matt Brown, Shane Van Duynhoven, Dylan Willsher, Jye O’Keeffe and Andrew Rae to transfer onto the back of the A-Main.
38 cars were in the pits with another sizzling day ensuring a challenging track would greet the drivers. 6 heats were contested with Aranyosi winning heat 1. He was followed by Dillon and Van Duynhoven. Heat 2 was taken out by a returning Simon Craven. He was followed by Moulden and Williams. Sullivan took heat 3 with Carroll and Whiting completing the podium.
Williams again finished on the podium when he took out the victory in heat 4. Stansfield finished in 2nd with Davies behind him. Heat 5 went the way of Ash Sinclair with Hagopian and Shilleto rounding out the top 3. Hallett lived up to his reputation of the “Highline Sensation” to win heat 6. Farley and Brad Metcalfe completed the podium.
Attention now turns to Round 5 tonight at Simpson Speedway. Jake Hagopian took the corresponding round win last year. Can he win his 3rd feature this series or will another driver lead the way? The only way to find out is to get your backside trackside!! Hot Laps start at 5.30 with heat racing to start shortly after.
