Matt Brown Wins Oval Express F500 Super Series Round 5

Matt Brown won his 18th career Oval Express Formula 500 Super Series feature last night when he took the win in Round 5 of the 2011/2012 series at Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway.
Liam Williams finished in 2nd with Thomas Davies and Mat Turner completing the podium.

Brown signalled his intentions right from the first heat race of the night with a win. He shared the front row with current Queensland, Victorian and New South Wales champion Charlie Brown.

Matt Brown led the way in the early going with Charlie following close by. In turns 3 and 4 3 laps in, Charlie Brown got loose and spun to the infield. He regained his position on the lead lap but was out of the hunt.

Williams had his chance during the race with lap traffic coming into play but before he could have a big chance to pass the yellows come out giving Brown the clear track ahead of him to go on and win the race.

Davies and Turner had by far their best result of the series. Jake Hagopian rounded out a good night for the Matt Brown Motorsports team with a 5th place finish in the final. Drive of the night went to Jye O’Keeffe. After being the last car to transfer out of the B-Main and start the A-Main in 20th, O’Keeffe set out on a mission to eventually finish in 6th place.

Chad Sullivan had a consistent night finishing in 7th. He was followed by Brock Hallett and Dale Shilleto. Grant Stansfield finished in 10th after he too transferred from the B-main.

Jess Moulden was next followed by Ash Sinclair, Mitch Whiting, Justin Sadler, Charlie Brown, Matt Higgs and Steven Ellement. Austin Farley’s nightmare series continued finishing on the infield. He was joined by Shane Van Duynhoven and Roy Urpeth.

The B-Main saw Ash Sinclair, Stansfield, Whiting, Farley, Ellement and O’Keeffe all transfer to the back of the A-Main. Will Carroll and Dale Sinclair were the reserves for the final.

32 drivers were in the pits on a much cooler night compared to the last 4 rounds. 6 heats were contested on a fast and racy track with Matt Brown taking the win in heat 1. Urpeth and Higgs completed the top 3. Hagopian flipped in turn 3 but was able to restart with a bent top wing. Moulden was the victor in heat 2 when she led Van Duynhoven and Ash Sinclair home. Charlie Brown took the heat 3 win ahead of Ellement and Sullivan. Leigh Van Ginneken flipped in turn 2 but was able to restart minus a top wing.

Former National Champion Hallett took the win in heat 4. He was followed by Hagopian and Davies. Turner won the penultimate heat of the night with victory in heat 5. Matt Brown and Shilleto completed the top 3. Carroll took the final heat race win of the night. Williams sped through the field to finish in 2nd with Sadler finishing 3rd.

Hagopian still holds a slender lead over Matt Brown and Williams who are tied for second heading into the final 3 rounds. The series takes another day off today before the final 3 rounds are run over the weekend. Darlington’s Mid Western Speedway is the next track on the series this Friday 6th January.

Hagopian took the win in the corresponding round last year. Can he repeat it or will Matt Brown continue the Matt Brown Racing domination? The only way to find out is to get your backside trackside. Hot laps start at 5.30pm with racing shortly afterward.
