Formula 500’s WA have suspended the licence of driver for a minimum period of 24 months and imposed a $1800 dollar fine, as a result of breaches to racing rules and regulations occurring on the 3rd of December, during the running of round 3 of the West Coast Series at Pithara Speedway.
Six separate charges including physical and verbal abuse by the driver in question, and their nominated pit-crew, were laid in relation to offences directed against competitors, competitor’s pit-crews and officials.
The penalty includes an additional probationary period of 24 months on re-issuing of the racing licence, in which a 24 month suspension shall be enforced as a minimum penalty, for any breach to the code of conduct rules pertaining to verbal or physical abuse.
Formula 500’s WA took the decision to apply the penalties within the boundaries defined under the Formula 500’s Australia Rules and Regulations, and these were upheld during a Court of Appeal. During deliberation the Court applied an increase to the initial penalty relating to the probationary period on re-issue of a racing licence.
The final judgement clearly illustrates to all members and associates representing the division, that prejudicial conduct of this nature shall not be tolerated within the sport of speedway.
