O’keeffe Wins Victorian Formula 500 Title

The Victorian Formula 500 Association would like to congratulate Jye O’Keeffe on winning the 2012 Victorian Formula 500 Title.
O’Keeffe sped to victory last night when he won a gruelling Title at Horsham’s Blue Ribbon Raceway. Chad Sullivan raced into 2nd, with pole sitter Brock Hallett finishing 3rd.

With night 1 winner and defending champion Charlie Brown out with a blown engine, O’Keeffe raced away at the first start and after 3 restarts was never challenged weaving his way through lapped traffic on a black and super fast track. With Hallett hitting the pole line and fading back to 7th at the first start Sullivan, Will Carroll and Liam Williams all engaged in a battle for the minor placings with Hallett eventually getting back up to third.

Carroll eventually finished in 4th. Williams completed a consistent weekend when he finished the 25 lap final in 5th. Jess Moulden finished in 6th with Dale Sinclair, Mat Turner, Mitch Whiting and Robert Trewartha rounding out the top 10.

Grant Stansfield went on to finish in 11th. He was followed by Andrew Blackstock, Jeremy Beddison, Brett Dillon, Shane Van Duynhoven, Andrew Morton and Jarryd Irving rounding out the finishers. Mathew Symons, Dylan Willsher, Leigh Van Ginneken and Brett Willsher finished on the infield.

After several attempts to get the B-Main ran and won Grant Stansfield took out an action packed win. All cars that eventually took the Green Flag went onto transfer to the back of the A-Main. Phil Smith, James Aranyosi, Gerrard Mabbit and a host of others watching the action from the infield.

O’Keeffe took his 2nd heat win of the weekend with victory in heat 7. He was followed by Williams and Moulden. Heat 8 was won by Hallett. He led home Sullivan and Whiting. Heat 9 saw Carroll take the win. After starting in pole position, Turner was able to hold on for 2nd while AJ Blackstock finished 3rd.

Whiting took the closest heat race win of the weekend when he edged out O’Keeffe for the win in heat 10. Hallett raced from the rear of the field after spinning for 3rd. Dale Sinclair returned to form taking the penultimate heat of the weekend. Sullivan sped into 2nd with Turner picking up another heat race podium in 3rd. Williams picked up his first heat win in the final heat of the title with victory in heat 12. Early heat leader Leigh Van Ginneken finished in 2nd with Phil Smith rounding out the top 3.

The Victorian Formula 500 Association would like to also thank the Committee, Officials, competitors and Blue Ribbon Raceway for hosting the title and the race fans for supporting the event.
