As announced last week Phil and Michelle Jordison from Oval Express Magazine have elected not to continue their support as naming rights sponsors for what would have been their 10th successive year in 2012/2013. Oval Express Magazines departure has left some rather large boots to fill and the club was naturally disappointed to see our relationship in this context come to an end. However we also no doubt look forward to working together again at some point in the future.
For the past nine seasons Oval Express Magazines support of our annual summer Speedweek or Super Series (now known universally as the “Oval Express Series”) has played a major role in showcasing our class to a nation wide audience through the pages of their magazine. In this period we have witnessed many significant changes in our class – such as, the cars going from being predominately 2-stroke powered to 4-stroke, and mainly 500cc to generally 600cc, and home built, to mainly mass manufacturer built, and we now have select rounds being run in conjunction with World Series Sprintcars and their regular 8000 plus crowds. Probably the most significant change of all has been the arrival of the American drivers on an almost yearly basis, and the immense leap in the level of competition that came with them………what a period of growth!
As the saying goes though “when one door closes…………..another opens” and so we are also excited at the prospect of growing our series even further with a new partner, just as our successful relationship with Oval Express has done in the past.
We have now finalised our F500 Speedweek calendar for 2012/2013 and you will notice that it includes 3 nights supporting headline Sprintcar events. At this stage we will take the opportunity to change a few small aspects of the series from a promotional point of view and also make some minor changes to the administration and day to day running of the series itself, however the very proven basics will remain unchanged.
We are currently looking at a few different options with regards to naming rights sponsors and perhaps even a whole new approach to naming rights full stop! One thing our club is proposing is a dedicated web site and facebook page specifically to promote the F500 Speedweek and it’s supporters. So rest assured our club and it’s supporters will strive to make the 19th successive instalment of the annual Victorian Formula 500 Speedweek as successful as any other………….
To all those who may be interested in supporting us, in any capacity whatsoever, please feel free to contact me on the email address above to arrange a time to talk further.
Thanks in advance Stephen Bell Secretary Victorian Formula 500 Association.
