Formula 500s blast back into action at Murray Bridge this weekend



The largest number of Formula 500’s have nominated for a season opener for many years this weekend, when eighteen of the pocket rockets head to Murray Machining and Sheds, Murray Bridge speedway for the opening night of the season incorporating the Speedway Australia Rookie of the Year championship.


Many of the South Australian regulars are back including Whyalla speedster Angelo Karoussis who will be looking to add to his collection of victories at Murray Bridge, along with “The Bordertown Bandit” Brad Tink who is always on the pace and will also be looking to add another feature win to his collection. Scott Dungey was in impressive form late last season after taking a number of feature wins including the Grant Seeley memorial and will be looking to take that form into the new season.


Ex Australian 1 and current Australia three, Brock Hallett will have a busy night running both the Formula 500 and Speedcar, while his team mate Chris Brooks will be on hand in an attempt to defend his Murray Bridge track championship. Former Australia three, Michael Wise has also entered in his lighting quick Hyper chassis, along with young gun, Ross Miller and veteran Joe Mercorella suits up for another season.

Visiting Victorian young gun Dylan Willsher will also make the trip over the border to get some laps in before the season starts in his home state.


Six rookies have entered to contest round one of the Speedway Australia Rookie of the year championship, including Shaun Brown who qualifies after only competing in a couple of races before season end last year and will be stretched against other entrants including Josh Michelmore, Lisa Walker, Adrian Flint, Latisha Helya and Roy Stevenson with further rookies expected to be on hand at future rounds of the series.



Action will take place over four heats with each driver competing in two before an all in feature. Don’t forget you can follow all of the action on the Formula 500’ SA facebook page if you can’t make it to the venue.
