Round one of the 2012/13 Formula 500's West Coast Series has come to an entertaining conclusion with a new racing format producing some exciting results.

Steven Ellement took the spoils ahead of Jason Pryde with Mark House rounding out the top three. Matt Brown placed fourth

After the two heats were complete, the top six (determined on passing points) competed in a two by two shoot out to determine the starting positions for the feature.

Having claimed the first round of Heat One, Brock Nanovich (6th) lined up for the first shoot out against Andrew Priolo (5th) who finished 5th in Heat One and 2nd in Heat Two. At the end of the two lap dash Andrew Priolo advanced to race the 4th placed Mark House.

House, with a 2nd place and 5th place heat finish of his own, went side by side with Andrew for much of the two laps, with Andrew advancing in the end to the third round of the shoots out.

3rd round saw the third placed Cody Turrachio against Priolo, and after his Round 2 Heat One win, Cody again took the victors spoils claiming the two lap dash, setting up the top two.

Standing in Turrachio's way of a start from pole was Steven Ellement who performed exceptionally well in the heats with a 3rd and 1st place finish. As the two laps came to an end, it would be Turrachio who would be leading the pack to the green light to start the feature.

The feature saw Ellement get the jump and took the early lead, but there was no settling in his seat because he had Turrachio hot on his tail for the majority of the race. Brent Lockwood took a wild ride on Lap one bringing on the red lights.

Cody Turrachio showing his good car speed all night once again clocking the fastest lap of the 30 lap feature with a 14.199. With 7 laps to go Cody Turrachio’s luck came to an end when he had a chain failure taking him out of the race.

With no one able to do much with Ellement he was able to take the win and prove why he is one of Australia's top drivers.

The next round of the series heads to Margaret River on December 1 and it will be a very interesting race with many drivers proving that it will be anyone’s race with the level of competition in Western Australia at the moment.
