Josh Michelmore made two wins from two starts in the Speedway Australia Rookie of the Year Championship when he raced to be the first rookie home in the feature at Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway on November 10.
Finishing in an impressive fourth place overall in the feature amongst tough experienced competition, Michelmore was fast all night in his Simax s96 Hyper to extend his points lead in the Championship.
For the second time in two rounds, “The Lady” Lisa Walker ran consistently all night to be the second rookie home, while it was Rory Stevenson in the s22 over coming a disappointing opening round to take third for the night for the rookies.
Latisha Helyar, was showing ever increasing speed in her second only Formula 500 meeting before she inverted the s93 Pace chassis after being unable to avoid a spinning competitor in the opening laps of the feature, riding out series of wild flips but walked away unhurt and taking time to acknowledge the crowd upon the exit of the car.
Shaun Brown also was having a solid run in his s99 Stallard before having to pull infield during the feature with mechanical gremlins, while debutant Brad Batten in the Clavell Family Racing s17 Pace also encountered mechanical drama’s and finished on the infield.
The rookies now set about regular runs with the local regulars, including the Christmas Cup at Whyalla on November 24 and the Kind of the Bridge on December 8 before the third round of the championship at Renmark on January 5.
