The festive season comes to the South Australian Formula 500’s when the pocket rockets head to Whyalla this Saturday the 24th of November for the 2012 Christmas Cup. It’s the first time the Christmas cup has been held in Whyalla and it has attracted some interesting names in the stout quality fifteen car field.
Making their debut for the season will be “The Iceman” Damien Eve in the familiar s17 Pace running for the Clavell family, while Simon “The Rocket” Reichelt will also make his first appearance for the year in his super quick s51 Triple X Chassis. Also making a return to racing this weekend is Kym Gower who has recently purchased new machinery and is set to be a regular in South Australia again.
After a few seasons off, Terry Marks makes his return to the Formula 500 ranks in his TM Transport RTS R6 s11, while former local and now WA resident Jarrod Moore is also a starter. Moore has been working in WA recently and has taken the opportunity to race in SA again while back at home for a short time.
Home town favourite, Angelo Karoussis will be hard to beat on his home track while hard charging regulars such as Ross Miller, Michael Wise and Joe Mercorella will be on hand while young guns, Lachlan Cates and Jordan Clavell are also making the trip up to Whyalla.
Making their first trip to Westline speedway will be the 2012-13 brat pack rookies headed by Josh Michelmore and accompanied by Rory Stevenson, Lisa Walker and Shaun Brown who will all be enjoying their experience on the super smooth Whyalla surface.
The weekend is the start of a busy three week period for South Australian drivers and teams with the teams heading to Mt Gambier on the first of December for the 2012/13 South Australian State Championship, while just a week later, teams head back to Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway for the 2012 King of the Bridge where a huge field of Formula 500’s is expected with drivers from all around the country registering their interest and are expected to be on hand.
Don’t forget you can follow all of the action on the Formula 500’ SA facebook page if you can’t make it to the venue.
