Formula 500's WA Round Two Motorplex - King of Wings
The 2012 King of Wings has been crowned.
Saturday night saw a new King of Wings crowned at the second round of the 2012/13 Formula 500's Championship at the Perth Motorplex.
After climbing valuable spots in his heats from the middle of the field, Andrew Priolo, started off poll in the feature alongside Brendan Condren, and after leading from start to finish, Car #10 took home the spoils of the King of Wings.
Starting alongside Priolo in the feature, Condren had a successful start to the evening, taking out the first Heat of night, closely followed by the surprise packet, Adrian Fogliani, with Cody Turacchio rounding out the top three.
With the start of a new heat came a new top three, with Matt Higgs claiming the top honours in the second heat. Jason Pryde followed in second spot, with Andrew Priolo, continuing from his fourth place in heat one, finishing third.
So with Car #10 leading the field out in the feature, Condren reaped the benefits of a solid run in the heats with a start from second. Fellow strong performers in the Heats, Matt Higgs and Jason Pryde rounded out the second row.
In what was an entertaining race, the early exit of Condren made way for an exciting finish as valuable podium spots made themselves available. And this was ceased upon by Troy Johnson, who started from third outside, surpassed the pack to claim a well earned third spot.
As mentioned previously, starting from the second row, Jason Pryde continued his good form and claimed second place on the King of Wings podium.
But the night belonged to the team at Mac Projects Racing, who claimed their maiden Motorplex victory. Andrew Priolo lead from start to finish to dominate proceedings and take home the coveted King of Wings trophy. The win also sees the team behind Car #10 take a lead in the championship which is poised to become even more competitive as the season begins to take shape.
