Josh Michelmore continued his outstanding form in the Speedway Australia rookie of the year championship by taking out the victory in round four of the championship in Bordertown on Saturday February 23 and has all but secured the Iinaugural championship with only two rounds to go.
“The Lady” Lisa Walker also continued her fine form and claimed second for the rookies in her s4 Knuckles Racing Pace chassis, while Latisha Helyar consolidated her third position in the championship by claiming third for the rookies in the round in the Captivation Gifts s93 Pace Chassis.
Michelmore was super impressive in his s96 Simax Engineering Hyper and was on the verge of an outright feature win after a spirited battle with South Australian regular Kym Gower in the feature before Gower was eventually successful in claiming the win.
Current South Australian Champion, Brock Hallett had solid run in his Dutchman Performance s1 Stallard after he claimed both heat wins and elected to start near rear of field in the feature and bustled his way to second in the feature after making a last corner pass on Michelmore, who claimed third outright and Walker who was fourth outright.
The result now means Michelmore can do now worse than second in the championship with his only challenger being Lisa walker who has now assured herself a top three finishing position with two rounds still to complete.
Next round of the Speedway Australia rookie of the year Championship heads to Whyalla Westline speedway on April 13 before the Grand Final in Waikerie on May 18.
