Formula 500's WA -Home town hero claims round three
Thomas Davies has once again proved how good he is around his home track as he claimed last night's feature race win ahead of Troy Johnson and Andrew Priolo.
Davies win at Narrogin Speedway doubled as the third round of the Racemate West Coast Series and has pushed him up the points standings with former leader Steven Ellement unable to make the round. Johnson and Priolo are both also in the points battle and tonight's podium finishes has seen them elevate themselves in the points standings also.
The feature saw Johnson get the jump early after starting on the front row, but Davies fought back underneath him to claim the lead. After a crash that eliminated a couple of cars, the race restarted, with Davies pulling away while Johnson and Andrew Priolo battled for position behind him. Davies survived a number of extra restarts, each time pulling away from the rest of the field, to take the win ahead of Johnson and Priolo.
Earlier heat racing was full of action, with the opening race seeing Johnson claim first blood as he crossed the line first ahead of Jason Priolo and Trystan Caley. Heat two saw Jeremy Saffin finally get a handle on the mechanical gremlins that have been plaguing him for weeks as he defeated David Sinagra and Adrian Fogliani while heat three saw Brock Nanovich claim the win from Jai Dillon and Davies.
Heat four saw Davies improve on his earlier result to take the win while Johnson was a man on a mission, working his way through the pack to finish second ahead of Greg Nicholas. Craig Bottrell put in a stellar performance in heat five as he moved from position six on the grid to be in the lead by the back straight. Matt Higgs put in a gallant effort to finish second while Brooke-Louise Sharpe was third. Heat six then went the way of Andrew Priolo over Todd Broadwood and Fogliani.
The top eight shuffle saw Davies and Johnson battle it out for the lead before Davies ran wide which allowed Johnson to move away and Matt Higgs to move underneath Davies to take second. This was the way they would finish. The Mid Pack Scramble saw Caley leading until a restart bunched up the field and Jason Priolo passed him for the lead and the win with Caley holding on to second and Broadwood finishing third. The last chance qualifier of the night went to Nathan Chapman over Craig Bottrell and David Sinagra.
So far this season in the three rounds of the Racemate West Coast Series there have been thirty two drivers competing, with Andrew Priolo leading with 270 points. Davies is just six points behind him in second place while Johnson has 214 points in third.
The next meeting for the Formula 500 division is on Boxing Day at the Perth Motorplex, and with another huge field expected, it's going to be one you don't want to miss. On behalf of all the drivers and officials involved in the Formula 500 division we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
