Formula 500's WA - Brown goes Back to Back!

Last night at the Perth Motorplex Matt Brown went back to back as he claimed his second consecutive feature race event at the venue. Brown outlasted a huge field of cars to claim an earlier heat win before he dominated the fifteen lap feature.

Brown started off pole in the feature and was never headed as he opened up a big gap, while behind him there were multiple battles throughout the field with cars going three and even four wide. Troy Johnson made his way into second place and set out after Brown while Steven Ellement and Thomas Davies battled it out for third. As the chequers flew it was Brown who defeated Johnson and Ellement.

In a huge credit to the whole field, the feature race went flag to flag and despite starting with a twenty eight car field, only two cars didn't finish, both with mechanical dramas in the closing laps of the feature.

The opening heat race saw Peter Blights machine refuse to go as the field took the green light, with the rest of the field very lucky to avoid him as he headed infield. Adrian Fogliani took the lead while behind him was a three car battle for second with Jason Priolo, Steven Gay and Craig Bottrell fighting it out. Behind them David Sinagra and Andrew Priolo were working their way through the field, but it was Bottrell who was moving forward as he made a clean run into third and then passed Gay for second. Meanwhile ahead of him, Fogliani all but had the race sewn up until the last turns of the event when he got baulked by a lapped car and had a half lose, which allowed Bottrell to overtake him and claim the win from Fogliani and Andrew Priolo.

Heat two saw Matt Brown straight into the lead and he never looked back as he went on to claim the win, while behind him Steven Ellement and Thomas Davies battled it out for third while Matt Higgs was a solid fourth. In the end Davies crossed the line second behind Brown, with Ellement third.

The third heat saw Brock Nanovich and Glenn Carstairs working their way on the highline around the field, but out front it was all Adrian La Macchia as he raced away to take the win from Nanovich and Davies. The final heat was looking to be all about David Sinagra in the opening lap, but he was quickly swallowed up by Troy Johnson who executed a sensational move to take the lead on the outside. Sinagra ended up pulling off while Johnson took the win from Jamie Pages and Steven Ellement.

It shows how many cars the Motorplex has competing in readiness for the Australian Title that a B Main was held for cars to just qualify into the A Main. It was looking like Travis Bell would be one of the transferees until he made contact with another car and found himself stranded in turn one with just one lap to go, seeing the race declared. This handed the win to Adrian haywood over Trystan Caley and Peter Blight.

The next event for the pocket rockets is the 10th Annual Sprintcar Muster on the 3rd and 4th of January.

Happy New Year to all our drivers, crews, officials, families and fans.
