Formula 500's WA -Priolo claims win in Albany

Andrew Priolo last weekend became just the second driver to win two of the Racemate West Coast Series feature races this season as he raced to victory at Albany Speedway.

Priolo, the current West Australian champion, started from the front row alongside Thomas Davies for the feature, but it was Davies who raced away with the lead. As the laps wound down Priolo, and last years rookie of the year Troy Johnson, closed on him, with the trio having a great battle through lapped traffic. However it all came undone when Davies spun to avoid another car, seeing him restart at the rear. This handed Priolo the lead and he took the win from Johnson and the very impressive Luke Nardini.

Earlier in the night saw heat racing action and it was David Sinagra who took the opener from Andrew Priolo and Adrian Tyler, while Davies took heat two from Jason Priolo and Johnson. Heat three went the way of Jason Priolo over Luke Nardini and Nathan Chapman while Andrew Priolo became the fourth different winner in as many heats as he raced to a win ahead of Johnson and Davies.

The Pole Shootout saw Sinagra and Luke Nardini battle it out first up, with Sinagra winning by 0.279 seconds in a close battle. Johnson then came out and disposed of Sinagra before being beaten by Davies who got faster and faster and increased his winning margins as he defeated both Jason and Andrew Priolo to claim pole position. The mid pack scramble was taken out by Brock Nanovich over Brendan Condren and Adrian Fogliani.

Andrew Priolo has opened up the gap in the overall points for the Racemate West Coast Series and leads by sixty three points ahead of second placed Troy Johnson, while Thomas Davies sits in third place, just three points behind Johnson. Jason Priolo and Steven Ellement round out the top five. Thirty eight drivers have competed in the series so far this season.

The next round of the series will be held at Margaret River on the 1st of February, but before then, the Formula 500's return to the Perth Motorplex this weekend, so stay tuned for the nominations list to be released later this week!
