Broadwood Family Racing has greeted the 2014 calendar year with a real mix of fortune, following the Sprintcar Muster event at the Perth Motorplex on January 3 & 4 and Round five of the West Coast Series at Albany Speedway on January 18.
We opened our account on night one of the Muster with a seventh in heat one on a very soggy track and backed it up with another seventh in heat two on a more “race-able” surface.
Friday’s shortened feature event was marred by a sickening crash for Matt Brown on the main straight on a re-start. The crash crews took a lengthy amount of time to look after Matt correctly & we wish Matt all the best for a speedy recovery.
Night two was more fruitful and we picked up a fifth and sixth place in our heats to line up tenth for the feature on a more usual slick Motorplex track. Our Long Range Automotive Murphy was fast early and pushed up to sixth place however frustratingly a fuel issue with a few laps remaining dropped us to 11th at the chequer.
The team then re-loaded for the West Coast Series round 5 at a revamped Albany Speedway.
The BFR car was fast from the get go and pushed forward to fifth from the rear in heat one. Inexplicably, while rolling around to the start from the front row in heat two, the motor cut out and we recorded a DNF. With no problems sourced to explain the issue, we ran heat three and picked up some spots for the feature, where from close to the back we recorded a 10th place finish, a frustrating night in all.

Coming up:
The team takes to the road with West Coast Series round 7 at Geraldton on February 15. Unfortunately round 6 at Margaret River has been cancelled by the venue.
