Merrett secures the Speedway Australia rookie of the year series
Bordertown racer, Patrick Merrett won the fourth round of the speedway Australia rookie of the year series round on January 18 at Sunline Speedway Waikerie, making it four rounds in a row and in the process has clinched the championship for season 2013-14.
Merrett driving his Bordertown pumps and refrigeration s64 Stallard has been faultless all season in claiming every round and has been void of accidents and mechanical failures which saw him take the championship with still two rounds to go.
Jason Norris in the Stevenson Mechanical s26 PMP has been building speed race by race and claimed second at the Waikerie round, consolidating his position in third in the championship and closing to with in twelve points of the second placed Steph Munn.
Munn in the Hoolagators s44 RTS again racked up valuable points to secure third for the round and kept herself second in the championship but with two rounds to go, the race for second in the championship is close and reliability will be key.
The teams now head to Renmark Speedway for round five of the Speedway Australia Rookie of the year series on March 9 before the grand final at Whyalla Speedway
Current Speedway Australia Rookie of the year series points:
