In his first Western Australian event this season, Mark House tonight claimed the feature race at the Perth Motorplex.
House, who spent the early weeks of this year racing on the east coast as a part of the Formula 500 Speedweek series and performed incredibly well against some tough opposition, returned to the Motorplex and had an almost perfect night as he recorded a win and a second place in his heats before going on to claim the feature win.
The feature though wasn't without drama, as it was plagued with yellows lights and restarts that ultimately saw the race significantly reduced in laps, allowing House, who started from pole position, to claim the win by nearly two and half seconds from fellow front row starter Thomas Davies, and Troy Johnson, who started from position three alongside Matt Higgs. Adrian Haywood put in an excellent drive to finish fourth in so few laps after having started from position ten.
Earlier, the opening heat went to Brock Nanovich by half a second over Thomas Davies and Glenn Carstairs, while the second heat saw Mark House score his victory by just under a second ahead of Graham Terry, then a long way back to third placed Jamie Pages.
The third heat saw Craig Bottrell put in a solid performance to claim the win, crossing line just under a second ahead of second placed Mark House, then another half a second back to third placed David Sinagra.
Andrew Priolo redeemed himself after an earlier discretion when he claimed the fourth and final heat, becoming the fourth different winner of the night, once again showing the versatility and the close competition that the Formula 500's have within their ranks in Western Australia. Troy Johnson and Matt Higgs followed him across the line.
Originally the Formula 500's next round of racing was to be at Margaret River Speedway but that event has now been cancelled, meaning that the next meeting for the flying Formulas will be in just under a months time back at the Perth Motorplex on Friday, the 21st of February as support to World Series Sprintcars. There is also a FAST racing event at the same venue on the 8th of February that some drives may also choose to compete in, so stay tuned for details!
