After six rounds of the 2013-14 season Tyrepower 600 Series for Formula 500s, there remains only one repeat round winner – Ryan Skennar. Last Saturday night at Archerfield Speedway, Cody Maroske was the latest driver to appear in victory lane.

In what was the biggest field of drivers for a round of the Tyrepower 600 Series this season, a total of 16, including North Queensland-based drivers Kayden Iverson and Billy Foyle, Maroske managed to end the night with the feature race spoils. Maroske, who had started from position two alongside pole sitter and one of the season’s form drivers Nathan Pronger, managed to jump to the lead from the drop of the green flag, and was never headed. Despite the best efforts of Maroske’s rivals, they were unable to match it with the former Australian Junior Sedan Champion.

At the fall of the chequered flag in the 20-lap feature race, Maroske defeated Iversen and Mick Pronger in second and third place respectively. Foyle finished just off the podium in fourth ahead of Brooke Wanless, Bruce Marshall, Bryn Upshall, Royce Harvey and Grant Harvey.

Skennar, who currently sits second in the Tyrepower 600 Series point standings, had a forgettable night. After finishing seventh and second in his opening two heat races, he failed to finish his third and final heat race. In the feature race, where he started from position seven, the going got a little tougher, when he retired on the sixth lap. Joining Skennar on the infield was Nathan Pronger, Brenton Finney, Kristin Brown, Nick Potts and Scott Farmer.

Despite not finishing the feature race in the sixth round, Kristin Brown has taken control of the Tyrepower 600 Series point standings lead.

In the heat race action, the opening heat race went the way of Nathan Pronger ahead of Charlie and Kristin Brown, in the second heat race, Maroske drove to the win by defeating Skennar and Charlie Brown, and in the third and final heat race Marshall claimed the victory and downed Wanless and Kristin Brown in the process.

Due to mechanical woes suffered in his second heat race, Charlie Brown’s night was brought to a premature end.

The seventh round of the Tyrepower 600 Series will be held at Archerfield Speedway on Saturday night, March 22.
