Formula 500's WA -Motorplex Night 1

O'Keeffe drove a faultless race as he survived numerous restarts as well as heavy pressure from Andrew Priolo in the reduced ten lap final to record a fine victory and set up some good confidence going into the final night tonight and also the Australian Championship to be held in less that three weeks. Priolo held on for second while Steven Ellement grabbed third place.

The event, which doubled as round of the Racemate West Coast Series began earlier that night with forty cars coming through scrutineering. The opening heat, with twenty cars, began with Mark House snatching the lead. Just as that happened, Victorian visitor Dylan Willsher found himself losing a wheel and bringing out the yellows before a lap was completed. Peter Blight lead the next start before a couple of cars suffered serious engine failures and headed infield, joined by a number of other cars with other various issues as the race progressed. Thomas Davies then grabbed the lead but on the last laps House fought back and went under Davies to claim the win with Davies settling for second and David Sinagra back in third.

Heat two also saw twenty starters, but an issue that saw Aaron Fullgrabe spinning and then collected by Tom Hooper, who rolled, eliminated a number of competitors. Brooke-louise Sharpe and Glenn Holdaway were stuck out wide in the same incident and made contact, seeing Sharpe ride the wall and out for the race along with Fullgrabe, Hooper and Glenn Carstairs. The restart saw Steven Ellement and Andrew Priolo battling it out, with Ellement putting all kinds of pressure on Priolo as he tried to get through. Meanwhile, behind them O'Keeffe had fought his way through and grabbed second from Ellement in the dying stages of the race.

Heat three once again saw cars going everywhere at the start, but the race was able to continue with Adrian la Macchia leading. The yellows then came out for Sharpe who found herself going heavily into the wall. The race restarted and Steven Ellement grabbed the lead with three laps to go while shortly after Andrew Priolo passed La Macchia for second, with the order remaining unchanged to the finish.

Todd Broadwood led away the final heat of the night but it was only one lap before the reds were out again after Adrian Fogliani spun in front of the field and ended with Brendon Condren going upside down. Broadwood led again with Troy Johnson in second place before he dramatically slowed and headed infield. O'Keeffe was on a mission as he chased down Broadwood and grabbed the win while Craig Bottrell made a last minute pass to claim second ahead of Broadwood.

The B Main was scheduled to have twenty starters with ten transferring to the A, but only ten started, seeing all transfer. Tasmania's Kristian Kelly claimed the win from Willsher and Debbie Patmore.

The feature itself saw cars everywhere at the start with Willsher rolling in turn one. The next start saw another incident, this time ending with Steven Gay upside down. Despite a number of other yellows and Andrew Priolo being right on his tail for the majority of the race, Jye O'Keeffe raced to a fine win with Steven Ellement back in third.

Just to add to the excitement, with Troy Johnson, the track championship leader going into the round, not starting the feature, Thomas Davies has taken the Perth Motorplex Track Championship lead by a slender six points. Believe it or not, after eight rounds, Troy Johnson and Andrew Priolo are now actually tied for second place! Tonight's round suddenly became a little bit more intense!

Indeed, the action begins all over again tonight with the final round of the Racemate West Coast Series and the hope is to have most of the damaged cars repaired and back on track. The field should also be boosted by the appearance of National Champion Marcus Kelly, meaning we should be in for a rip snorter!
