After months of hard work and preparation, weeks of scheduling and nominations and days of the excitement building, the time is finally here for the 2014 Washpod Australian Formula 500 Championship to get underway.
Most cars have now gone through Scrutineering and are completing final checks after practice on Wednesday, while all who attended the official launch party last night had a great time. The committee has done a great job to organise all aspects of the title so far and this should continue through the running of the event itself.
So who will win? Well that's anyone guess. Going by practice times alone, James Aranyosi was fastest with fellow Victorians Jye O'Keeffe and Ash Sinclair also making their mark. There is also a whole group of interstaters that didn't make their way to the west just to make up the numbers,
Local hopes include Steven Ellement, the Priolo brothers, Troy Johnson and Mark House while reigning champion Marcus Kelly would love to make it back to back championships.
The thing with titles is you never know what's going to happen; drivers have to survive four heats across the weekend and if someone can keep their nose clean and move forward in all four then they are a real chance of being in that all important A Main, which is the first step towards that championship trophy.
Tonight will see no less than fifteen qualifying heats, with five heats per round for three rounds, with each driver getting three heats. Each heat will be over eight laps and will have fourteen starters. Points will be accumulated and added to one more round of heats tomorrow night.
Full results and points, as well as a wrap up of all tonight's action will be released shortly after the conclusion of proceedings this evening.
Drivers are ready. Crews and families are ready. Officials are ready. Are you?
