Hallett wins Second Australian Formula 500 Title

Five years after his first Australian Formula 500 Championship victory, Brock Hallett has tonight claimed his second win in the event at the Perth Motorplex.

Hallett drove a faultless race and withstood immense pressure from Western Australia's own Mark House throughout the twenty five lap feature race to win and in the process make South Australia the most winning state of the title with thirteen victories in the fifty one year history of the event.

In a feature race that took just seventeen minutes from go to whoa, with eighteen cars finishing the race and all on the lead lap, Hallett was the true standout, though there were moments that it looked like other competitors may have been about to get the edge. Mark House challenged Hallett a number of times until his front wing came loose and flipped over his bonnet. True to form, House continued on and even threatened to pass Hallett a couple of times. Despite his best efforts, House came home second in a solid result for the man who hasn't raced a whole lot on the West Coast this season.

In third place was another West Australian, this time Andrew Priolo, who also was on the attack early after starting from pole position as the highest points scorer and in the process claiming the set of brand new top and front wings courtesy of Vortex Race Products. Unfortunately for Priolo he dropped back early and was unable to regain the point of the race, but still managed a fine third place.

The whole feature race saw only a few cautions, with James Aranyosi failing to make the start, allowing the very impressive Deb Patmore to get a start as the first reserve. The first yellow of the race came out for Jason Priolo who at the time was running eleventh before he hit the turn four wall.

Pre race favourite Troy Johnson then headed infield as Jye O'Keefe made his move into fourth place before the yellows came on again, this time for Rob Trewartha who was stranded in turn two. The race restarted and continued for a while before Chris Dymock slowed and became stuck in turn one. The final yellows came out when O'Keefe found himself spinning infield and ending his race. As the laps wound down Steven Ellement and a few other cars made their way infield but it didn't make a difference as up front Brock Hallett crossed the line a clear first and celebrated with some victory donuts on the grass.

Earlier in the night Ellement recovered from some disappointment on the opening night to claim the sixteenth heat after Jason Pryde, who led the entire race, pulled infield on the last lap. Debbie Patmore was next up and she recorded a huge victory in heat seventeen. The young lady racer, in just her second appearance at the Motorplex, did a great job to fend off and race away from a number of more experience competitors.

Heat eighteen went to Ash Sinclair while Andrew Priolo locked in pole position for the feature in heat nineteen with a good win. The final heat of the weekend was then taken out by Hallett in a precursor of things to come.

Adrian Fogliani would go on to win the C main, transferring along with Chanelle Condren, Dylan Willsher, Jesse Elston, Dale Sinclair, Steven Gay, Brad Davison and Graham Terry. Unfortunately Terry was unable to take his position in the B main and was replaced by Jeff Prentis, while other names to finish their weekend in the C Main included Alan Iverson and Bill Richards, while Brooke-Louise Sharpe found herself going upside down in the C and recording a DNF. There was also a number of cars who failed to start the race including Jason Pryde, Trystan Caley and Brent Lockwood.

The B Main saw Bronwyn Channing record a popular win after starting from position six. She transferred along with Rob Trewartha, Craig Bottrell, Shane Andersson, Todd Broadwood, Kristian Kelly, Dylan Willsher (who came from the C Main!) and Ash Sinclair with Patmore and David Sinagra the two reserves.

That ladies and gentlemen is the culmination of twelve months of hard work. To all the committee, drivers, crews, families, officials, sponsors and anyone else who devoted time and energy to making this weekend such a fantastic success we thank you. Now we can sit back and reflect on what truly was a magnificent weekend of racing.

Oh, and for those of you who just can't get enough action, make the trip down to Narrogin Speedway tomorrow afternoon for the Bunny Burrowes Memorial!
