Formula 500 - Priolo's Payday!

Last night at Narrogin Speedway Andrew Priolo got a measure of redemption as he claimed the Perth TQ Car Club promoted $5000 to win 32nd Annual Catalyst Communication Rigging Bunny Burrowes Memorial.

For the second event in a row Priolo was the highest points scorer and would start the feature race on pole, repeating his efforts from the Australian Championship the night prior. This time however he drove a faultless race, breaking away from the field both times the feature race started and was never headed. Indeed the feature race only had one stoppage: a red light for Glenn Carstairs who tagged the main straight wall and went upside down.

Behind Priolo was a number of changes, with firstly fellow front row starter Troy Johnson holding down second place before being overtaken by Queenslander Charlie Brown. Johnnson fought back and held the position on the restart before Steven Ellement caught him and grabbed second, setting out after Priolo.

Defending PTQCC Bunny Burrowes winner Thomas Davies then worked his way through into fourth and was putting pressure on Johnson for fourth until he slowed and headed infield, with Jye O'Keeffe then taking over his position and working on Johnson. In the dying stages O'Keeffe got around Johnson for third but it was too late to move forward anymore as Priolo crossed the line first ahead of Ellement, with O'Keeffe in third while Johnson and Brown rounded out the finishers.

Earlier in the night, the twelve heat races saw twelve different winner, once again showing the standard of competition within the Formula 500 ranks. Glen Carstairs backed up his Australia #5 finish last night with a win in the opener while the second heat went to Victorian Jye O'Keeffe.

The third heat saw Jason Pryde claim the win while the final heat of round one was taken out by new Australian Champion Brock Hallett, although Andrew Priolo crossed the line first but was relegated to third for starting out of position. This race would also see James Aranyosi and Charlie Brown making contact early in the race, seeing Aranyosi lucky not to roll and end up finishing on the infield while Brown was sent ROF for the contact. Priolo went on to make amends for heat four in the very next race though as he claimed heat five. In the same heat Nathan Chapman found himself making contact with the front straight wall and rolling over, though he was able to repair the car in time for his next heat.

Heat six was a popular win for the hometown hero Luke Nardini while heat seven went to another local in Thomas Davies. Troy Johnson then took out heat eight to conclude the second round of heats.

The final round of heats saw the highest point scorers working their way from the back of the field. In fact, the whole round of heats was dominated by the interstaters, with heat nine taken out by Josh Fort, heat ten to James Aranyosi, heat eleven to Charlie Brown and Marcus Kelly who took out the final heat.

In later presentations Jye O'Keeffe was awarded the Keenquip Fast Time Award, receiving a right rear tyre for the fastest time of the night, being a 15.142, just 0.024 seconds faster than Steven Ellements 15.166. Glen Carstairs received the hard luck award and Matt Higgs received the commentators award, while Steven Ellement took home the Chief Stewards award.
