Nathan Pronger made one of his rare Tyrepower 600 Series appearances at Archerfield Speedway last Saturday night, and managed to come away with a commanding feature-race victory.
The current Queensland, South Australian and NSW Champion started the feature race from pole position by virtue of finishing inside the top three of all of his heat races earlier in the night. From the drop of the green flag, he power to the front and then pace the field for the entire 15-lap distance. At the fall of the chequered flag, he scored a comfortable victory over Charlie Brown and Cody Maroske in second and third place respectively.
After a premature exit to the previous round due to mechanical woes, Brown bounced back to form to finish in second on the podium; while Maroske, guest driving in the Qld # 4 Edge Chassis of Dale Shilletto’s, completed a strong night with the final podium spot.
In what was a massive comeback, early season pacesetter Ryan Skennar finished just off the podium in fourth. Skennar and his team had to work hard to get back out on the track for the feature race after crashing heavily with Brooke Wanless while they battled for position. Unfortunately, Wanless, who had recently celebrated her 21st birthday, was unable to return due to the significant damage to her car in the crash.
North Queensland-based youngster Billy Foyle finished in a strong fifth ahead of two-time Australian Champion Mick Pronger, John Tunney, Bryn Upshall, Brenton Finney, Royce Harvey and the final finisher Grant Harvey.
Nick Potts was the feature race’s only non-finisher.
In the heat race action, the opening heat race was won by Skennar ahead of Nathan Pronger and Charlie Brown, the second heat race went the way of Nathan Pronger who downed Charlie Brown and Kristin Brown, and Maroske picked up the win in the third and final heat race by defeating Nathan Pronger and Charlie Brown.
Apart from Wanless being unable to start the feature race, Kristin Brown, who was the Tyrepower 600 Series point standings leader heading into the round, suffered mechanical woes that brought her night to a premature end.
The eighth round of the Tyrepower 600 Series will be held at Kingaroy Speedway on Saturday night, April 5.
Current Tyrepower 600 Series Point Standings (after seven completed rounds) 1: Ryan Skennar – 448 2: Cody Maroske - 447 3: Kristin Brown - 429 4: Charlie Brown - 343 5: Dan Scougall - 177
