After three weeks off, the WA Formula 500 brigade is returning to action for the third last official night of action of the season this weekend at the Perth Motorplex.
With the huge Australian title weekend now behind them and the Bunny Burrowes and WA Title events also complete, the race is now on to see who will win the final points scores. A solid twenty four car field has nominated, including the top eleven drivers in the Perth Motorplex Track Championship.
Less than 200 points separate the top seven drivers in the Track Championship and with 300 points on offer for each of the final three rounds, it's still anyone's game for all seven of these drivers should a bit of luck go their way.
At this point it is Andrew Priolo's Championship to lose as he currently leads second placed Troy Johnson by sixty three points. Priolo has been in good form, with a podium finish in the title before winning the Bunny Burrowes races. Johnson has also shown a lot of speed but in the big events hasn't quite performed to his own lofty standards. Both will be looking to garner a good finish this weekend, with Priolo hoping to increase his lead.
That being said, a DNF is worth 237 points, so should Johnson win and Priolo not finish, there could be a lead change in the Championship. In fact, it was only a few rounds ago that Johnson held the lead after Thomas Davies, who at that point was leading, had a DNF, launching Johnson into the lead. Of course Johnson then also had a DNF, leaving Priolo in the lead and showing that anything can change in an instant.
All three of those drivers are nominated for the weekend, as are their fellow competitors in with a chance in the top seven including Jason Priolo, Matt Higgs, Brock Nanovich and Glenn Carstairs.
Also in the field are a number of drivers who have proven they are capable of winning or others who are looking for redemption after recent weeks performances. These drivers include the always fast Chris Dymock and Steven Gay, the consistent Chanelle Condren and Bronwyn Channing and of course the quick but unlucky Craig Bottrell.
It's going to be a humdinger of an event and with the chances to see the pocket rockets in action this season dwindling, you'd be best off getting your backside trackside to the Perth Motorplex this weekend!
