Tom Hooper yesterday took the next step forward in his short career by claiming the feature victory at the newly revamped Kellerberrin Speedway in the second meeting of the PTQCC season.
Hooper outlasted a solid field of twelve cars and improved as the day went on to peak at the right time in the feature.
Earlier in the day Jayden Higgs returned to the division in style as he raced away with the opening heat victory ahead of seasoned campaigners Gavin Connelly and Brett Janssen.
The second heat saw another returning driver, this time Travis Bell in the beautifully presented Brighten Up Electrical #33 machine, claim the win, with Tom Hooper improving on his earlier sixth place to claim second while Janssen again claimed third.
The final heat saw Hooper improve once again to claim the victory ahead of rookie Brendan Wright and Brett Janssen once again a consistent third. It was this race that also saw the only real carnage of the day as both Glenn Sharpe and Travis Bell found themselves going gently upside down in the same corner at the same time in separate incidents. Both drivers were ok, but only Bell would return for the final race of the day. Gavin Connelly was also involved and the incident would also end his day early.
The feature was a hard fought affair, with Hooper finding his way into the lead early and never looking back, while Jayden Higgs fought his way into second by the fall of the chequers and Travis Bell raced his way into third. The only real issue of the feature was when Brooke-Louise Sharpe had her steering fail, seeing a few scary moments and leaving her stuck in the sand traps beyond turn two.
Overall it was a great day with some excellent racing and we look forward to seeing the flying Formula 500's return to 'Windy Hill' Kellerberrin Speedway on the 7th of June!
