This coming season will see big changes with Shane Andersson and Brett Janssen joining forces for a two car assault in West Australia. Both Janssen and Andersson could well be considered veterans with a combined 41 years’ experience racing Formula 500’s all over Australia with varied success.

After Andersson’s recent visit to the US and discussions in person with the Sawyer family at their manufacturing facility in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma the team have opted to run two state of the art Sawyer race cars specifically designed to suit the drivers and the type of tracks raced on in Australia. The cars are currently being built and will be leaving the factory by the end of the month. These will be the first Sawyer cars to be raced in West Australia and the team is very excited to debut the cars this year. With an amazing four generations of racers the Sawyer name has been synonymise with Micro Sprint racing all over the US but mainly in the Mid-West for over 50 years. Way back in 1958 Bob Sawyer began building cars for locals and in later years his son Bobby would take it a step further starting the Sawyer Chassis business. Bobby is still designing and building cars for the business. Bobby’s Son Scott Sawyer has enjoyed huge success both racing and marketing the Sawyer brand while his 11 year old son Drew has now stepped into a race car extending the Sawyer family name far ahead into the future of Micro Sprint racing.

Andersson, in his 23rd year of competition has definitely seen the highs and lows of the sport. The 2008/09 West Coast Series champion has struggled to produce results since that dominant season and is looking to show the new breed he still has what it takes to achieve success with a race winning package. His right hand man will once again be his father and Formula 500 legend “JA” Johnny Andersson and Shane’s wife Abby will also be giving 120% towards success this year. Andersson has for the first time stepped away from his long-time association with Honda power plants but will stick by his one and only engine builder over the last 7 years FTZ Performance this time opting for their R6 package while Janssen will run his trusty Seros Race Engine with Johnny Andersson building a second engine he will test later in the season. Janssen a long-time supporter of Perth TQ Car Club both at committee level and competing is eager to get back to business after focusing mainly on club based racing over the last five years. Brett achieved a lot of success at the now closed Bibra Lake Speedway and has been a top three finisher in the club points over the last 17 years. The Janssen family have been a part of speedway for many years with Brett’s father Peter competing in sedans and super mods in the 70’s and in the late 90’s created Janssen Racing with Brett and his sister Kym behind the wheel of the two car travelling team. Peter’s wife Jenny also served on the PTQCC committee and as timekeeper for many years.

The team is looking to kick off their season at the Opening night of the Perth Motorplex on the 18th October with the main focus being the Motorplex Track Championship and the WA State title at Bunbury Speedway on the 21st March 2015.
