Changing of the Guard The Victorian Formula 500 Assn held their AGM at the Mount Moriac Hotel on July 12th. With all positions declared vacant it was time to bring in the new executive and committee for the upcoming 2015/16 season. Nominations with acceptations and declines came thick and fast, with all positions filled as follows.
President: Mark Dalton Vice President: Chris Olsson Secretary and Public Officer: Lauren Bowen Assistant Secretary: Maria Olsson Treasurer: Maria Olsson Membership and licensing: Kristen Turner Machine Examiner: Steve Plotzza Committee: Ian Aranyosi, Steve Plotzza, Rob Rankin, Ash Sinclair, Justin Bowen. Internet & Media: Lauren Bowen Speedweek Coordinators: Chris & Maria Olsson Stampede Coordinator: Sharna Williams Assistant: Lauren Bowen Club Steward: Steven Hood (Training to be completed)
Firstly I would like to personally thank Chris and Maria for their many years of service to the club on the executive and as race coordinators, now that they have decided to step back from such a huge work load but are still willing to be there in assistant roles shows how much this class means to them both. Believe me when I say even with the positions filled and new blood coming on board we will still require more assistants on race nights. Chris will need people to step up and learn the timing system, if you have a basic understanding of computers this might be the job for you. At least this job comes with a nice seat up in the box seated out of the cold air on those bad nights and at some tracks you might even get air conditioning. It was good to see some new people step up and take positions, I can only hope this might get some more girlfriends/ wife’s to come along to race meetings and get involved. As we go forward I don’t see things changing too much, we already have a calendar in place with 23 race meetings in Victoria running from 21st November to the 30th April. We still have some tracks asking for race dates at this late stage, combine these with interstate races , state and national titles there is plenty for everyone to attack and try their best at. There will be some new ideas that I want to try out and see how drivers and car owners respond to, these will be online surveys to give myself and the club an idea on what their thoughts are on various matters to do with racing and club matters. I know that there are some members that cannot make it to meetings so this might be the best method to achieve more input. For those that have any matters they wish to discuss with me please give a ring, text or Facebook messenger. Phone calls if they can be after 7pm week days due to work and most weekends from 9am.
