Victorian Formula 500 Muffler Requirements

Muffler Specification for all Victorian Formula 500 race meetings.
At the completion of racing for the 2014 season a muffler testing day was conducted at Simpson speedway. A baseline was made from the previous night’s racing with a few variations of mufflers tested over the day, it allowed the club to draw some conclusions from the data retrieved.
The figures that were recorded were all still above the 100 dB range, all in attendance agreed that the longer muffler had a reduced tone even with the high dB reading.
The mandating of a mandatory muffler brand or type still requires more testing and research. At the AGM it was decided to set the required muffler for all upcoming race meetings in Victoria to be -
a minimum of 350mm in length for a packed or 250mm for a baffled muffler.
It is the driver’s responsibility to have their muffler in a working condition that will help reduce or suppress noise. The tracks still have the right to black flag you if they believe you are above their noise levels allowed bearing in mind the rule book states 95db.
