Brisbane Formula 500 Club -Iverson Draws First Blood
Kaydon Iverson romped to victory in the opening round of the Brisbane Formula 500 Club Championship last Saturday night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway.
The current Queensland Champion certainly didn’t have it all his own way throughout the 15-lap feature race. From the drop of the green flag, it was front-row starter Scott Farmer who powered to the lead and he held down the front-running spot until he drifted wide on lap eight in turn two and it consequently allowed Iverson to steal the lead away. Once in the lead, Iverson managed to power away from his rivals and go on to score the win.
Defending Brisbane Club Champion Kristin Brown followed Iverson across the finish line in second, while rookie Ryan McNamara completed the podium in third. The latter put in a solid drive to snare his maiden podium finish with less than a dozen Formula 500 race meetings to his name.
Phill Roberts finished just off the podium in fourth ahead of another newcomer James Kennedy, a disappointed Farmer, Adrian Farrell and the final finisher Royce Harvey.
Both Grant Harvey and Brad Vee were unfortunately unable to finish the feature race due to mechanical woes.
Earlier in the night, the heat-race wins were shared between Blake Hancock, Farmer and McNamara. Other to impress in the heat races were Brown, Iverson and Roberts.
The second round of the Brisbane Club Championship is going to be held at Gatton’s Lockyer Valley Speedway on the Saturday night of November 14.
