After a few weeks break the Flying Formula 500’s will this weekend return to the high banks of the Perth Motorplex and they do so in the best way possible with a huge twenty eight cars nominated for the King of Kwinana event. The event has become a staple for the Formula 500’s over the years, with at least the last ten on record as the King of Kwinana. Steven Ellement is the winningest driver of the event, having taken out the crown five times in the last ten years while Matt Brown has also taken the win once. Both are in the field for this weekend’s event, with Ellement making his first appearance of the season apart from some practice laps tonight at the Perth Motorplex. Brown had a disappointing opener, recording a DNF in the feature and both men will be hoping for a strong run this weekend. Last show at the Motorplex saw Troy Johnson lead home Glenn Carstairs and Tom Hooper so all three will be confident of another good run this Saturday night, while Thomas Davies has been in ripper form in recent week as he made it a clean sweep of the country round at Geraldton, won the feature the following night at Moora and then headed over East to Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia where he won the King of The Bridge race. Can he become King twice in two weekends? Also at Murray Bridge was Adrian Haywood who put in a great effort to qualify on the front row of the feature and came home a fighting fourth place, a feat he would love to improve on this weekend. Adding some spice into this weekend’s field is the fact that we have Victorian visitor Nathan Pryor having a run. Pryor has won multiple feature races on the east coast and will be hoping to add another to his list this weekend. Also in the field is a whole host of other drivers who want to add another feature win, including Chris Dymock, Mark House, Jeremy Saffin, not to mention Cameron McKenzie and the very fast Nardini boys Jamie and Luke. Returning this weekend is Craig Bottrell who has had a significant time out of the seat, while Speedcar pilot Alfonso Guadagnino is also having a crack in the Formula’s this weekend driving the #37 machine. This weekend will see the Formula 500;s contest a total of three heats, each driver in two of them, which will determine the starting order for the 15 lap feature event to determine who will be this year’s King of Kwinana. Make sure you are at Kwinana this weekend for what is set to be a massive show! Release by DTN Media.
