Since joining the Formula 500 ranks six seasons ago, James Aranyosi has long strived for a Victorian Title victory, and last Saturday night at Hamilton’s Western Speedway that goal was fulfilled.
In what was the 2014-15 season running of the Victorian Title, the Vic # 50 Advanced Transport Refrigeration & Air Conditioning / ATR Rentals / DK Race Parts supported EDGE driver was on the pace from beginning to end of the night and he came to the fore when it mattered most: the feature race.
Aranyosi had qualified second for the Victorian Title deciding feature race on the back of a fourth, a win and a third from his three heat races. In the feature race, he chased after pole sitter Marcus Kelly for the opening eight laps before he was able to take the lead off Kelly. Once out in front, Aranyosi never put a foot wrong for the remainder of the 20-lap distance and went on to score what was a comfortable win.
Despite Aranyosi being one of the country’s leading drivers in Formula 500 for the past four seasons, one event that had eluded him up until last Saturday night was the Victorian Title.
“It’s a massive weight lifted off my shoulders to finally win a Victorian Title,” the jubilant Geelong-based racer said.
“In past seasons, I’ve been right up there in the Victorian Title, but for one reason or another the cards just hadn’t fallen my way; however, last Saturday night saw everything come together and I couldn’t be happier for all of my hard-working team and our supporters, because this win is as much theirs as it is mine.”
This Victorian Title win adds an impressive start to the new season for Aranyosi. In his past two race meetings this season, he has won the ACT Title at Goulburn Speedway and most recently ran second in the annual King of the Bridge at Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia.
The focus for Aranyosi now is this Saturday night’s Jack Willsher Cup at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway.
“Premier Speedway is without a doubt my favourite track,” commented Aranyosi, who won the 2014 running of the Jack Willsher Cup.
“I’m looking forward to the Jack Willsher Cup because it holds a lot of prestige and always attracts a strong field, so hopefully I can continue my great start to the season and be a front-running contender.”
Aranyosi would like to say a special thanks to Brendan and Matt for all of their help on the night and also his car owner Mark Dalton from EDGE Chassis Australia, along with 2015-16 season sponsors: Advanced Transport Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, ATR Rentals, Assets Real Estate Portland, Dayne Walter Bricklaying, North Geelong Auto Electrics, FK Australia, EDGE Chassis Australia, DK Race Parts, BRATT Race Engineering, R&J Batteries, Direct Storage, Wings N Things, Aranyosi Designs, and DW Motorcycle Repairs.
