The Ian Boettcher Race Parts Formula 500 Stampede last night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway resulted in a Charlie Brown victory for what was his third 2015-16 season success.
In what was an impressive performance, Brown, a former Queensland, Victorian and NSW Champion, powered his way to the lead by the fifth lap, after he had started from position five in the field, and was never headed for the remainder of the 20-lap event.
Despite the best effort of previous race-meeting winner and pole sitter Ryan Skennar, he had to be content with a second-place finish behind a dominant Brown on this occasion.
Youngster Tristan Johnson captured his second podium finish of the season with a third-place finish.
Last season’s KRE F500 Championship Series winner Kristin Brown finished just off the podium in fourth. The remainder of the finishers were current Queensland Champion Kaydon Iverson, Scott Farmer, Phill Roberts, Piper Ogilvie, Brad Van Elswyk and the final finisher Ryan McNamara. The latter had a coming together with Royce Harvey in the middle stages of the race and consequently dropped off the pace, while Harvey was forced to retire to the infield.
Apart from Harvey, other non-finishers were James Kennedy and 2011 Australian Champion Liam Williams. Williams had started from position two in the feature race and set the pace in the early laps before he was forced to retire with mechanical issues. Grant Harvey and Ken Newton were the only drivers who failed to start the feature race.
The heat-race wins went the way of Kristin Brown, Williams and Charlie Brown. Skennar, Iverson, Farmer and Johnson all performed strongly to finish in minor podium finishes during the heat races.
Special thanks must go to Ian Boettcher Race Parts for their great support of this event.
The next event is the KRE Cup, which is incorporating the postponed fifth KRE F500 Championship Series round from earlier in the season, that’s going to be held back at Archerfield Speedway this Saturday night (January 9).
