WA Formula 500's -Ellement Returns to Winners Circle!
Steven Ellement has last night ended the dominance of Troy Johnson in recent weeks as he claimed his first win at the Perth Motorplex for season 2015/16. Ellement led from the beginning in the feature, with Johnson and Tom Hooper holding down second and third respectively. As the race continued Hooper made his way into second while Johnson was able to sit comfortably in third. The yellows came out at about half race distance for some spun cars in turn two and the restart allowed for some good racing as drivers changed positions. Ellement and Hooper held down first and second while Chris Dymock came from nowhere and grabbed third from Johnson. The order remained unchanged from here with Ellement defeating Hooper and Dymock. The opening heat earlier in the night saw Tom Hooper leading from the front, with Chris Dymock and Matt Brown right behind him. Brown made his way past Dymock at the half way distance, with Troy Johnson just behind Dymock. Brown then dropped a few positions after a small incident, then just two laps later Ben Stockdale came to a stop in turn two to bring out the yellows. Hooper would lead away Dymock and Johnson, while Craig Bottrell and Steven Ellement made contact in the back straight, both able to continue. Up front though it was simply a formality ad Hooper crossed the line ahead of Dymock and Johnson. Heat two was a complete invert of the first and the opening three laps were quite simply a massive pack of Formula’s all fighting for position on the track. Trystan Caley was the man who built up a clear lead in the opening few laps, while a number of heavy hitters were making their way through the pack towards the pointy end. Lap seven saw the yellows come out for Matt Brown who got caught on the curb and spun after making a passing maneuver that didn’t quite work. This reduced the 2.5 second lead Caley had as the field restart again for the final three laps. Caley led away and was able to hold the lead to defeat Ellement and Saffin. The Formula 500’s will be back in action tomorrow night at the Perth Motorplex and with four heats splitting the field before the all-important final, we are sure to have yet another great night of action!
