Ryan Skennar powered his way into victory lane in last Saturday night’s ninth round of the KRE F500 Championship Series at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway for what was his second victory of the 2015-16 season.
Skennar’s victory came on the back of starting the 20-lap feature race from pole position, where he was able to come away with the lead off the start. From there, he managed to dictate the pace of the field for the entire distance.
At the fall of the chequered flag, Skennar took the win ahead of Charlie Brown in second and last-start winner Liam Williams in third. Both Brown and Williams tried their hardest to deny Skennar of the win, but in the end had to settle for minor positions on the podium.
Finishing just off the podium in fourth was current KRE F500 Championship Series leader and reigning Queensland Champion Kaydon Iverson, who finished ahead of James Kennedy, Kristin Brown, Chase Norman (NSW), front-row starter Ryan McNamara, Piper Ogilvie, Kenny Norman (NSW), Phill Roberts, Brad Van Elswyk and the final finisher Kye Norman (NSW). All 13 of the finishers managed to finish the feature race on the lead lap.
The non-finishers in the feature race were Royce and Grant Harvey, who were sidelined with mechanical woes on laps seven and five respectively.
Earlier in the night, the heat-race wins went the way of Skennar, Kennedy and McNamara. Others to shine at different stages of the heat races were Roberts, Iverson, Kristin Brown, Williams and Chase Norman.
The Brisbane Formula 500 Club would like to especially thank the Norman family – Kenny, Chase and Kye – for travelling up from Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter region of NSW. Their support is very much appreciated.
The 10th KRE F500 Championship Series round is going to be held at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway on the Saturday night of March 5.
