The WA Formula 500 Title is quite simply the one event that all drivers aim to win in a season, and that chance is finally here with the WA Formula 500 Title to be held at the Perth Motorplex this weekend!
Friday and Saturday night will see a screaming field of Formula’s hit the track for a two night extravaganza. There is a massive field of thirty three cars nominated for the event, including three Eastern State drivers and no less than four former winners.
Headlining the list is defending champion Tom Hooper, who claimed his first WA Title win last season at Bunbury in what was also his first feature win. Hooper was in fine form then, and has continued that this season, with no less than six podium finishes from eight starts at the Perth Motorplex. He will be throwing everything he can at the car to get it perfect from the get go and is a real threat of going back to back.
Steven Ellement and Matt Brown are both also former winners who have both gone back to back as champions previously, and they are both hoping that this weekend will see them add the trophy to their cabinet once again. Brown has won the event three times and has so far grabbed one win and two podiums so far this season at the Perth Motorplex, while Ellement has only raced a limited campaign to have a tally of two feature wins and one more podium from his Motorplex events so far.
In great news for fans, there is also one other former winner of the event who has nominated, in 2003/04 winner Gavin Casey. Despite not having raced much in recent years, Casey has in the past proven he is a threat whenever he rocks up at a track, so can certainly not be counted out this weekend.
Australian Champion Dylan Willsher has nominated to head across the Nullabor and to take on the best the west has to offer. Willsher has been in good form throughout the season and would love to add the WA Title to his already bulging collection of trophies.
He will be joined by Queensland competitor Ryan McNamara who will be strapping into the #6 machine. McNamara has had some strong results in Queensland this weekend and will be hoping to be right on the pace this weekend.
The final Eastern States machine will be driven by Nathan Pryor this weekend. He will once again strap into the #72 machine and should be fast right off the bat.
Looking at some more of the local drivers, Troy Johnson is one man who would be going in as a red hot favourite. He is the last start winner at the Plex and has claimed a number of feature wins this year, so will be hopeful of grabbing his maiden WA Title.
Of course there are a whole list of other competitors who will be hoping to grab their first title win, including the fast trio of youngsters in Luke Nardini, Chris Dymock and Jamie Nardini. Add to this another group of strong talent in Thomas Davies, Cameron McKenzie and Cody Turrachio, not to mention some long time drivers including Shane Andersson, Glenn Carstairs and Brock Nanovich and we have all the ingredients in the mix for what is sure to be a huge show!
See you all at the Perth Motorplex this Friday and Saturday night!
