Liam Williams drove to yet another strong win in last Saturday night’s 10th round of the KRE F500 Championship Series at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway.
Williams’s second round victory of the 2015-16 season came from starting in second position alongside pole sitter and current Queensland Champion Kaydon Iverson, who he was able to real in and pass on lap nine. From there, the Jim Muir-owned SQ # 26 car driver led a non-stop race all the way through to the chequered flag.
Across the finish line behind the 2011 Australian Champion was current KRE F500 Championship Series point standings leader Iverson, while Ryan McNamara recorded his best result of the season by completing the podium in third.
Finishing just off the podium in fourth was dual feature-race winner, Ryan Skennar and then James Kennedy in fifth. Rookie Piper Ogilvie enjoyed her best performance of the season in sixth ahead of come-back racer Graham Williams, Kristin Brown, Adrian Farrell and Brad Vee in 10th.
The only non-finisher of the feature race was Charlie Brown, who suffered mechanical due to his heat-race three crash. Another driver in the wars earlier in the night was Nathan Pronger. The multiple state champion recently made a return after 12-month layoff, but his run on Saturday night was brought to a premature end after the opening heat race, due to mechanical woes.
In the heat-race action earlier in the night, the wins went to Williams (x 2) and Skennar.
The focus for a number of Brisbane-based drivers now is the Australian Title at Gunnedah Speedway (North-Western NSW) that is going to be held on the Saturday night of March 19. The next round of the KRE F500 Championship Series is going to be fought out on the Saturday night of April 9 at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway.
