Current and two-time Australian Champion Liam Williams took out victory in the 11th and penultimate round of the KRE F500 Championship Series last Saturday night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway and it was his fifth feature-race win in a row.
After Williams qualified on pole position for the feature race ahead of his partner Kristin Brown and her younger brother Charlie Brown, Williams claimed a solid victory, with the Brown siblings, Charlie and Kristin, swapping positions during the 15-lap journey and then went on to finish in second and third respectively. As a result of this podium finish, Charlie Brown has now moved within nine points of KRE F500 Championship Series standings leader and current Queensland Champion Kaydon Iverson with only one round remaining.
Ryan Skennar finished just off the podium in fourth ahead of Tristan Johnson, Graham Williams, Adrian Farrell and the final finisher Royce Harvey.
Iverson endured a tough run throughout the night and he was forced to retire along with newcomer Piper Ogilvie, when the latter spun her Qld # 51 car, which saw her collide with an innocent Iverson on lap eight. The only other retirement of the feature race was James Kennedy, who recorded a rare DNF.
Youngster Ryan McNamara suffered a crash in the second heat race that left him with a heavily damaged car and brought his night to a premature end.
Earlier in the night, Williams, Kristin Brown and Skennar scored heat-race wins.
The KRE F500 Championship Series will continue with the 12th and final round taking place on the Saturday night of April 23 at Archerfield Speedway.
