Brisbane F500 - Williams Succeeds but Iverson Conquers

While Liam Williams scored his fourth KRE F500 Championship Series round win at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway last Saturday night, Kaydon Iverson went on to secure the Series victory for the 2015-16 season.
After qualifying on pole position for the feature race, Williams, who is the current and two-time Australian Champion, led from start to finish, crossing the finish line to win the 12th and final round of the KRE F500 Championship Series, ahead of nine other feature-race finishers.
Current Queensland Champion Iverson finished behind Williams in second-place, scoring enough points to hold on to his KRE F500 Championship Series lead and come away with the victory honours.
Displaying consistent form previously, rookie James Kennedy finished in third and it was his first feature-race podium finish for the season.
The feature-race finishers were rounded out by Ryan Skennar, Graham Williams, Piper Ogilvie, Adrian Farrell, Phill Roberts and Brad Van Elswyk.
Tristan Johnson, who had started out of position two in the feature race, managed to take the lead from Williams in turn one of the opening lap. However, his lead was short-lived as he almost immediately got turned around, causing his car to spin into oncoming traffic, which saw him heavily hit by Ryan McNamara. While both drivers were physically unharmed, the damage to their cars was too extensive, forcing them to retire from the race.
Royce Harvey was also forced to retire from the feature race, along with Nathan Pronger, who suffered electrical issues.
Charlie Brown’s KRE F500 Championship Series hopes went up in flames, literally, when fire engulfed his engine during the running of the second heat race, taking him out of contention for the point standings honours. While he was not injured, Brown was extremely disappointed with the outcome, after heading into the event in second place in the point standings.
Earlier in the night, the heat-race wins went the way of Johnson, Liam Williams and Iverson.
Final KRE F500 Championship Series Point Standings:
1: Kaydon Iverson - 780 points
2: Ryan Skennar - 744
3: Charlie Brown - 700
4: James Kennedy - 663
5: Kristin Brown - 652
6: Liam Williams - 562
7: Phill Roberts - 407
8: Tristan Johnson - 387
9: Adrian Farrell - 364
10: Ryan McNamara - 352
