FORMULA 500s -Australian Title Podium for Davies

The 2017 running of the Australian Formula 500 Title at Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia rewarded Thomas Davies with a new career highlight in only his third ever attempt at the event.

Travelling from Perth in Western Australia, Davies managed to impressively qualify on pole position for the Australian Title deciding feature race and then went on to finish in second place behind defending and three-time Australian Champion Liam Williams.

Despite the limited track time this season, which has only seen him contest five race meetings leading into the Australian Title weekend, Davies was on the pace from outset and from his four heat races he went on to win three of them (he finished third from the rear of the field in his remaining heat race).

Davies, who steers the WA # 29 Golden West Lubricants supported Yamaha R6 powered PMP car, was left with mixed emotions upon greeting the chequered flag in second-place for the Australian Title.

“I headed into the weekend aiming to be a front-running contender, but after qualifying on pole position, it was a bit disappointing to finish one spot shy of the win,” the 25-year-old racer said, who is a past career highlights from his eight seasons in Formula 500s was being a Western Australian Title holder, a Bunny Burrowes Memorial and King of the Bridge winner.

“I did my best to match it with Liam (Williams) throughout the feature race; however, he proved too strong and I had to settle for second.

“Big thanks must go out to my dad (Geoff) for all of his help with the car and getting it so competitive.

“The majority of the time it’s just my family who travels with me to all of my racing and I’m very pleased to be able to make our big venture to the Australian Title a rewarding one for all of us.”

The final 2016-17 season event on the calendar for Davies is going to be the 35th annual Bunny Burrowes Memorial at Narrogin Speedway on the Saturday of May 6. This is an event he won back in the 2012-13 season.

Davies would like to thank his 2016-17 season sponsors: Golden West Lubricants and Touch Wood Studios. Special must go out to his mum and dad (Robyn and Geoff), Kaylr (girlfriend) and Brent Vosbergen (Genesis Shocks).
