Formula 500's WA Great Field for Opening Round!

The biggest field seen in a number of years has nominated for this weekend’s show at Pithara Speedway, which will be the opening round of the 2020/21 Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series!
Twenty six drivers have nominated for the event, proudly presented by Ridgetech Roofing Pty Ltd, and it is a high quality field featuring the current WA Champion, the defending West Coast Series Champion, former WA Champions and Rookies of the Year as well as a whole pile of other well credentialled racers.
Heading the nomination list would be WA Champion Steven Ellement and last years Series champion Chris Dymock. Ellement was near on unstoppable last season, recording five feature wins and he will be keen to get back to that form again this season. Dymock meanwhile recorded just the one feature win last year but a total of eight podium finishes across the season kept him in front in the points and he would love to grab yet another series win.
Last time the Formula 500’s visited Pithara, back in April 2019, it was Ryan Higgs who took the win. Higgs is back in the field this weekend as is Troy Samwell, who claimed third in the aforementioned show. Both drivers have spent considerable time in the off season fine tuning their machinery and could well be contenders this weekend once again.
Two other names that come into the show as fancied contenders would be Matt Brown and Cody Turrachio. Brown claimed two feature wins last season and also claimed a WA Title win at the Pithara venue a couple of seasons back, so is certainly no stranger to running up front. Turacchio had another rough year with engine dramas, but still managed to claim a feature win and no less than five heat wins across the season and both will be hoping for a trouble-free run this weekend.
Coming into this race meeting with some form based on his last start though would be Mark House. In the last meeting of last season, House qualified on pole position for the feature race before it was unfortunately rained out, so he will be hopeful of a solid run to open up his 2020/21 season campaign.
A number of two car teams will be racing this weekend, with Amy and Nash Waldron, Ted Street and Jacob Priest, Tyler and Steve Carter and Damien and Carl Della all nominated. Each will be putting that extra little effort in to beat their team mates as well as looking to get their best results on track on Saturday night.
Rookie drivers including Nikita Donohoe, Jake Pobjoy and Darren Wood are also in the field, joining series regulars including Matthew Edwards-Pope, the returning Brendon Marshman, Jamie Pages and Craig Noakes amongst others, ensuring that we will have an epic start to season 2020/21.
A good field of five Junior Formula 500’s have also nominated for the show and these stars of the future will certainly put on a show to support their senior counterparts.
Gates open at Pithara Speedway this Saturday from 1.30pm with racing from 6pm.

Junior Formulas to Steal the Show?
This weekend at Pithara Speedway is not just the opening round of the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series for the senior Formula 500 drivers, but also the opening show of the Junior Formula 500 season.
Numbers have boosted this season, with five cars nominated for this weekend alone and more expected to come as the season progresses! Indeed, most of the field this weekend comes from a family of racers and it is exciting to see the next generation of some familiar names hitting the track this weekend.
The elder statesman of the group is Flynn Roser, who last season captured the hearts and imaginations of the crowd at every venue he raced in. Roser is quite clearly passionate about racing, getting laps at every chance he gets and he should put on another good show Saturday night.
Axel Fiedler is also appearing this weekend and with a family history of racing, can be expected to hit the ground running this weekend. Having previously raced Junior Sedans, he will be in good stead for racing experience and will be another to watch.
Making her racing debut this weekend is young Lauren Hedington, daughter of well credentialled racer and manufacturer Dave. She has spent a lot of time over the off season with her Dad getting to know the machinery inside and out, as well as getting some practice laps in. With so much experience in her corner, she will be sure to take to the division like a duck to water.
Also joining the field this weekend is Dustin Filgate, running the #195 as normally run by his Mum Jo. Dustin works hard behind the scenes at Pithara Speedway so knows the track well and is excited to be finally getting to have a competitive run at his home track and will certainly make his family proud
The final piece of the Junior puzzle this weekend is Marcus Pages, son of former competitor Brad and nephew of current racer Jamie. With this much talent in one family he is sure to pick up the skills quickly and this weekend will be an exciting time for the youngster.
It is an exciting time for Formula 500’s in WA as we watch the next generation of superstars learn their craft and we look forward to seeing how they grow and develop over the season!
